Cherry Creek (CO) 2016 goalie Sara McGuire has signed a National Letter of Intent to play Division I lacrosse at Winthrop University.

Why did you choose this school? “It has a great program and coaching staff.”
HS team’s outlook for 2016 season? “Cherry Creek represents a lot and having been in every state championship game since the sport was sanctioned is a lot of pressure. This pressure, however, drives us to work harder and to support one another. We are led by the amazing Coach Kathryn Ames, whose unending love and support for us makes us better players on the field and even better teammates to one another. We not only have the skill to compete at a very high level but also our love for the sport as a group pushes us. 2016 will be another great year for Cherry Creek High School Women’s Lacrosse as we strive to be the best in the state.”
Thank You: “I have the best support group always cheering me on, but I think it all started with Coach Goettelman, my middle school recreation league coach. He pushed me as a player set the foundation for me as a goalie. Without him, I wouldn’t be playing lacrosse and loving every minute of it. I would also like to thank Coach Brianne Tierney, Coach Amanda Mastera, and Coach Ashley Thompson, as they all were my first coaches as I entered high school and the world of high school lacrosse. They have taught me so much and I definitely wouldn’t be the player I am without them. Coach Billy Corbett of RetroFit Denver is one of my biggest inspirations and biggest supporter. Without him, I wouldn’t be getting the chance to play in college and I also wouldn’t be staying fit during the off season without his amazing workout programs and encouraging words. I can go to him for anything, he is really the best! Coach Kathryn Ames, my current high school coach and first coach in high school, has been through it all with me. I really don’t know where I would be without her! She is most athletic and caring woman I know and really is the glue that keeps this program going. She provides the best environment for every girl in the program and knows how to have fun but also keep the competitiveness alive.
“Lastly, my parents. My mom and dad have done nothing but pushed me to become a better person and player and their unending support has helped me get to the level I am at. Without their love and help I wouldn’t be where I am today, both athletically and as a person.”
