Taking home the top honors as the 2015 Women Guardian National Championship was 2016 Megan Gianforte, from Manasquan High School in NJ and T3 Shore Black Travel Team. Gianforte, who last year also won her age class title at the Goal Guardian, is committed to the University of Richmond.

“I really enjoyed seeing how I matched up against the other top goalies from across the nation,” she said. “I came back to the Nat Championship this year because I wanted to prove that I wasn’t a one-hit wonder.

“Winning this national championship title was an adrenaline rush and it’s amazing to see the success after all the hard work. I can’t wait to bring my game to the college level at Richmond, and hopefully help them continue their recent success.”

The Guardian National Championship is the first ever “championship style” goalie combine. The competition is based on a patented “Guardian Method” points system, focusing on measuring the skills and competencies specific to the lacrosse goaltender.

In its second year, The Guardian National Championship (GNC) is the largest lacrosse goalie specific showcase bringing together the top high school girls lacrosse goalies from across the country to compete and showcase their talents for Division I, II and III college coaches. The goalies are evaluated in 15 position-specific tests in four key component areas; REACTIONARY, OFFENSIVE, ATHLETIC and VIRTUAL.

“Ginny, Coach Rob, and all the guardian coaches repeatedly encouraged us to only focus on the next shot, and to not get down on a missed goal,” said Gianforte. “I learned that being a goalie is mainly a mental game, so maintaining an upbeat and positive energy on the field is contagious.”

Gianforte said that through the Guardian championships she has learned to improve that mental aspect of her game.

“After winning the championship last year, I realized all I need to do in lacrosse is have fun,” she said. “If you watch me in any game I play in, I love to go onto the field making the best of every team opportunity and keeping things exciting. I brought that mentality this year.”

“We were blown away by how close the competition was this year and how some of our returning competitors took last years evaluations and stepped up their game. It is amazing to see how quickly our event has grown in popularity and level of competition in just one year.

“It is our goal to bring together the best high school goalies in the country and give them an event where they are the focus of attention. We are very proud to lend a hand in helping these talented goalies get recruited and make their dreams of playing at the college level become a reality.”
