Xavier College Prep (AZ) 2015 midfielder Areta Buness has been named the TopLaxRecruits.com Girls’ Player of the Week.

Buness scored a stunning 12 goals – including the game-winner in overtime – to lift the Gators to a dramatic 18-17 thriller over three-time defending state champion Pinnacle last Monday to open the season. In all last week, Buness, committed to play at Stanford, had 18 goals as the Gators went 2-1.
Can you tell us what helped you accomplish such a strong performance?
Buness: “We came out really strong and played with teamwork and heart through the last minute of the game. We knew we could beat them, but now we really know what we are capable of and how hard we have to work to win!”
How did it feel to score 12 goals to open your senior lacrosse season?
Buness: “Amazing! I couldn’t have asked for a better start to our season!”
What is the outlook for your team in 2015 and what do you need to do to reach your goals?
Buness: “We have a very strong young team and I think if we keep practicing hard, learning from every game, and improving our skills, we can definitely make it to the state tournament.”
What are your personal goals for 2015?
Buness: “Play the best that I can at every opportunity and always be a positive example for my teammates.”
