From Press Release

Hudson Taylor, a senior attackman at Tahoma High School in Covington, WA, signed a National Letter of Intent to play lacrosse at the University of the District of Columbia last month.

“We are thrilled to welcome Hudson to our UDC family,” Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach Scott Urick said. “Hudson is a skilled and intelligent player who will make an immediate impact on our program. Most importantly, he is a hard-working leader who will fit in well with the approach of our team.”

Meanwhile, Taylor is equally excited about the opportunity to come to a historic, urban land-grant school in the nation’s capital and play the sport he loves.

“It’s really an honor to play for UDC and [head] coach Scott Urick,” Taylor told Washington State Prep Lacrosse. “He’s an experienced coach that I can learn from.”

Taylor helped guide Tahoma to a first-place regular season lacrosse finish in Washington state’s Division I SPSL/Narrows Conference with a 13-5 record. Behind his No. 4 state-ranked 71 points (59g, 22a), the 5-11, 175 lb. crafty All-Conference attackman powered the Bears into last spring’s state tournament where they missed advancing to the state title game by a single goal.

Taylor was discovered by UDC while playing in a series of East Coast tournaments this past summer, including the MVP3 HS Exposure Tournament in Newark, DE, Boys Philly Showcase in Philadelphia, and the Ultimate Lacrosse Summer Shootout and Clinic in Annapolis, MD.

With a strong lacrosse foundation learned as a freshman under long-time Tahoma coach and Washington state hall of famer Vern Smith, some fine-tuning by current coach Brian Johnson, and a superior fitness level developed from running high school cross country in the fall, Taylor hopes to vie for immediate playing time at UDC.

“Hopefully I can help on offense and will have a chance to play right away,” Taylor said. “It’s a completely different level. In high school I’ve played against some good players. But at the NCAA level I’m going to have to get used to the speed. The game is a lot faster. Everyone is good.”

According to Johnson, his high school coach for the past two seasons, it is Taylor’s business-like approach to the sport that he expects will carry the prolific scorer far in his career.

“Hudson is extremely consistent with his work ethic and overall mental approach to lacrosse,” Johnson told Washington State Prep Lacrosse. “When he’s on the field, he’s always ready to play. He checks in like he’s going to work.”
